Money Saving Tips
-
Visit During the Week :
Accommodation is much more expensive on Friday and Saturday nights, compared to other nights of the week, so if
the dates of your visit are flexible, you will save money by planning your trip to be during the week.
-
Loyalty Schemes & Comps :
If you are planning to gamble in Vegas, check out the loyalty schemes for the main hotel chains. Once you have
decided on the best scheme, get a player's card and use it! Try to stick to your chosen chain of hotels for most
of your gambling - you may be surprised at how quickly you accumulate enough points to pay for your evening meal,
or even your room.
-
Free Entertainment :
Make sure you make the most of the free entertainment during your trip to Vegas. Make the most of your hotel's
pool and go to see the fountains at the Bellagio, the Lions at the MGM Grand, the Sirens show at Treasure Island,
the Botanical Gardens at the Bellagio and the musicians & 'live statues' in the Venetian Hotel Shopping Mall.
-
Half Price Show Tickets :
There are three 'Tix 4 Tonight' booths on the strip (located near the Riviera, outside the Fashion Show Mall,
and in the Hawaiian Marketplace across from the Monte Carlo), that sell tickets for many of the Las Vegas
shows at half price.
It is well worth checking these out before paying the full fee at the hotel box office.
-
Free Drinks in Casinos :
Most Casinos will serve you with free drinks as long as you are gambling on either tables or slots.
Tip the waitress $1 - $2 and you can be sure she will be back with more free drinks as soon as your glass needs re-filling.
-
Drinks Prices in Rooms or By The Pool :
Most hotels charge high prices for drinks taken from the refridgerator in your room. It is therefore a good idea to
stock up from the local store, and take water and other refreshments back to your room with you.
Also, most hotels charge a premium for drinks by the pool. However, some hotels allow you to take your own
drinks to the poolside with you - check with your individual hotel before going ahead with this.

-
Gambling Too Much :
Remember that gambling is not a get-rich-quick scheme - In the long term, the casino always wins
and losses can quickly mount up.
So ensure that you never gamble more than you can afford to lose, and learn to walk away if you are losing money
or feel that you have had too much to drink! It is a good idea to set yourself a loss-limit at the start of the
evening - and make sure you stick to it!
-
Sensors in Fridges :
In the hotel rooms, don't touch anything in the fridge unless you want to be charged for it. Most hotel fridges are
fitted with sensors, and if you remove any of the contents, these will automatically be charged to your room.
-
Resort Fees :
Many hotels charge a daily 'resort' fee, on top of the quoted room price. This can vary from $1 to $11 or more!
Therefore, if you think you've got your room at a great price, make sure you check for additional charges before
confirming the booking.
-
Traffic :
The traffic in and around the Las Vegas Strip can get very congested, so you are not advised to drive along Las
Vegas Boulevard. Instead, consider the Deuce or the Monorail.

-
Pushy Timeshare Sales Reps :
You will be approached by sales reps who want you to go to see their company's time share / apartments / etc and
will offer you free tickets to shows, buffets, etc, in return for a 'small' amount of your time.
- Be warned! This can take up hours of your time!
- Is it really worth giving up 2-3 hours of your vacation time for free tickets to the least popular show in town?
-
'Dodgy' Areas :
If you stay at hotels that are outside of the main tourist areas in and around the strip, you may find that the
neighborhoods deteriorate quite rapidly.
For example, you may encounter prostitutes and homeless people in the far North of the Strip.
This may not be a problem if you intend to spend the evening in your hotel or if you are willing to take cabs,
but many people comment that they don't feel safe walking in some of these areas late at night.
Don't Forget to Pack ...
-
Comfortable Shoes :
The hotels in Vegas are huge and there is a good chance you will end up walking some distance during your
stay. So don't forget those comfortable shoes!
-
Sun Glasses
It may sound obvious, but you will need your sunshades ... don't forget to pack them!
-
Sunscreen :
Again, it may sound obvious, but make sure you have a high factor sunscreen with you at all times - and especially
remember to top up after going in the pool.
