10 October 2009 - America's Got Talent Live! to be hosted at Planet Hollywood

The new 10-week run of America's Got Talent Live! is to be hosted in the Chi Showroom at Planet Hollywood in Vegas. The show, which is hosted by Jerry Springer, is set to run on Wednesdays-Sundays, up until the middle of December.

16 July 2009 - Woman Wins $1.4 million on Wheel of Fortune at Palazzo

While in Vegas, celebrating her father's birthday, a 30 year-old woman hit the jackpot on the Wheel of Fortune at the Palazzo Resort, winning $1,490,945. The woman wishes to remain anonymous.

The new Fountainebleau Hotel that is due to open on Las Vegas Strip in October 2009 has filed for Chapter 11 bankruptcy in Florida, putting a temporary halt to development plans.

1 May 2009 - Death of Danny Gans

At 03:44 a.m. on Friday 1st May, Police received a call from the home of Las Vegas Impressionist Danny Gans, reporting that Gans was having breathing problems. When Police and Paramedics arrived at the address, they found Danny Gans unresponsive, and pronounced him dead at the scene. Gans was a talented Las Vegas performer, who had won many accolades. He had been performing regularly at the Las Vegas Encore Hotel prior to his death.

31 March 2009 - Riviera Warns of Possible Bankruptcy

On Tuesday 31 March 2009, Riviera Holdings reported that it had chosen not to make a $4 million interest payment on its debt, and may have to file for bankruptcy protection. Stock in Riviera Holdings Corp responded to the statement by falling 31% to $1.02.

20 March 2009 - Phil Ruffin Takes Over TI

On 20 March 2009, Phil Ruffin purchased the TI Hotel & Casino from MGM Mirage for an agreed purchase price of $775 million. The purchase came at a time of economic downturn resulting in a reduced valuation on the property.

4 March 2009 - Riviera Stock Falls on News of a Technical Default

On 4 March 2009, Riviera received notice of a technical default on its $245 million credit agreement, by Wachovia Bank, which administers the credit facility. Stock in Riviera Holding plummeted on the news, reaching a 52-week low of $1.65, before rallying to close 31 cents down, at $1.91.

22 December 2008 - Opening of Encore Hotel

On Monday 22 December 2008, Steve Wynn opened the doors to his new Las Vegas Encore Hotel. The new hotel, which is comprised of 2,034 suites is situated next to its sister hotel, the Las Vegas Wynn.

25 January 2008 - Monte Carlo Hotel in Flames

The Las Vegas Monte Carlo Hotel had to be evacuated after a fire broke out on the top floors of the 3,000 room luxury hotel. Nobody was injured, but the hotel had to be closed for 3 weeks following the fire. An investigation by the Clark County Fire Department later determined that welding activity on the hotel roof started the fire.
